About the Role
We are seeking experienced Psychiatrists to provide specialist mental health assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing care for patients across inpatient, outpatient, and / or community settings in multiple positions throughout New Zealand. These roles will suit a clinician who is committed to delivering compassionate, patient-centred care and enjoys working as part of a multidisciplinary team to support people through complex mental health needs.
The Psychiatrist is responsible for providing specialist psychiatric care to patients within the service. The role involves undertaking comprehensive assessments, developing treatment plans, managing clinical risk, and working collaboratively with other health professionals, patients, whānau, and community providers to support recovery and continuity of care.

Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments, including mental state examinations, risk assessments, and clinical formulation.
- Develop and implement evidence-based treatment plans tailored to the needs of each patient.
- Provide treatment across a range of mental health conditions, including pharmacological, psychological, and psychosocial interventions.
- Manage a clinical caseload across inpatient, outpatient, and/or community mental health settings, depending on service requirements.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and contribute to collaborative care planning.
- Provide clinical leadership, advice, and supervision to junior medical staff, registrars, and other healthcare professionals.
- Liaise with primary care providers, NGOs, community agencies, and other services to support coordinated and continuous care.
- Work alongside patients and whānau in a way that is respectful, culturally responsive, and recovery-focused.
- Participate in clinical audit, quality improvement, and service development initiatives.
- Adhere to professional, ethical, and legal standards, including those set by the Medical Council of NZ.
- Engage in continuing professional development, supervision, and appraisal processes.
- Contribute to a safe, supportive, and high-performing clinical environment.
- Support best practice in patient safety, risk management, and clinical decision-making.
Requirements
- Eligible for vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
- Fellowship or equivalent specialist qualification in Psychiatry, such as FRANZCP or an internationally recognised equivalent.
- Experience in general adult psychiatry; subspecialty experience is desirable but not essential.
- Strong communication, clinical judgement, interpersonal, and cultural competency skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
- Commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centred, and recovery-focused mental health care.
